The Oncidium (Sherry Baby) that I
purchased back in October 2008 developed its first blooms earlier this week. It only bloomed once this year, so I’ve been taking advantage of every opportunity to display it. I usually move it to some area of the house in the morning and put it back in my bathroom at night, since I keep overhead lights running in there to get the most out of photosynthesis for my plants. My Grandma remarked that I should just buy a fake orchid for my room instead of going to all of this trouble, but part of the appreciation that I have for my orchids comes from growing them. =P I also don’t consider moving a plant twice a day to be that big of an inconvenience when it is for my own enjoyment. Now that I write it all out though, it does sound a little… OCD. =X I suppose that I am a rather strange person!
I went to the Main Street Mercantile with my Mom this weekend because she wanted to buy a lamp. While we were there I saw this adorable Tea For One set (still new) marked down to $15. Basically I used to have a thing for collecting teapots and tea sets, but stopped because they reminded me of my ex (not in a bad way). So, I was indecisive about buying it and finally decided that I shouldn’t get into the habit of buying things when accompanying my Mom on her own shopping trips anyways. But when we met up at the register, there it was! My Mom had noticed me eyeing it and decided to buy it for me. *L* She’s so perceptive. =P
I actually like the convenience of it a lot, since I usually brew tea by the cup. Now I brew enough for the teapot and just keep it in my room. It also encouraged me to do some knitting and have fun with potholder patterns. Here are the ones I’m using now — what do you think? The only drawback is that the yarn wasn’t as thick as I would have liked, so I end up using two of the potholders instead of one just to be safe.
So this is what my TF2 backpack looks like following Valve’s nerf. I couldn’t play TF2 for two days because they deleted all of the weapons that I had earned through Milestones/Achievements and didn’t restore them until today. I don’t mind losing the items, but I really hate how Valve has treated and divided the community over this. I vented my thoughts about it like hundreds of other people over on the
Steam Powered Forums.

That’s a lovely tea set! My grandma collects tea pots and I always liked looking at them when I visited her as I grew up and your tea set just reminded me of their charm. :3 With the potholders, I think they’re nice too and to be handmade by your own hand just makes them that much more special.

<<< I agree with your thought.
I’m sorry about TF2… I hate Valve’s management..
Please understand my inexperienced English. Lately, I must study hard in English. However, no progress. : ( English is still difficult….

I am a big fan of tea pots & tea sets as well. That is so pretty! I recently bought something similar but in a different pattern (meaning teapot on top of the teacup) but haven’t used it yet as I’ve been lazy. Doesn’t the tea get cold, though? That’s one thing that turns me off using tea pots like that.
The pot holders that you made are very cute! Very impressive, as always. Your mother is really sweet, btw!

LOL it seems that most of the stuff I like is also stuff your Grandma likes. XD We have so much in common that I wonder if you have this mental image of me in your head as your Grandma now! *L*

Long time no see! Did you discontinue your study of Japanese?
Please don’t give up on English — even native speakers have a difficult time! I think that English is one of the most difficult languages to learn. The US is a country of immigrants, so not everyone speaks perfect English either! That is what makes us America. =B
If you ever need help with English, message me on Steam!

I saw some of the teacups and mugs that you posted on your LJ. I really love the fun looking ones, like the PotC mug. ^^ I’m the same way in that I like to drink tea from teacups, but I like to drink coffee and espresso from wacky looking mugs.
If I make hot tea then I usually only make about two cups for the teapot, because anything more will take too long to drink and eventually get cold. If I want to make a lot of tea to keep on hand, I just make iced tea instead. =B I’ve heard that coffee stays hot longer in teapots, but I haven’t tried it because I am too worried about staining.
Thank you for such lovely compliments. ^^ The patterns aren’t really that impressive IMO, but this is about as many rows as I can tolerate to knit towards one thing these days! *L* I kind of prefer crochet.

I wouldn’t say that you’re unusual in your desire to grow things. You should see my mom, she’s always got clippings growing on the window sill, and there are boxes in the back yard built up with their own soil and isolated from the rest of the dirt in the backyard. My mom and my aunt both grew up on a farm, so to them not growing something is probably unthinkable.
@SUN
English is indeed hard, you can thank the Normans (French) and vikings for that. But considering how well you seem to type it, and understand it–being able to read it–it would be a shame to give up now. I applaud anyone who can understand a foreign language as well as you do because even after three years of French what I remember is rudimentary at best.

I agree completely about the Valve thing. I wouldn’t mind at all if they had simply taken away all the items I had earned via idling and given me a slap on the wrist. Instead, I feel like their response was quite… disproportionate.
